There won’t be a formal presentation, just a wonderful opportunity to connect and ask any questions! Please RSVP here. We can’t wait to see you there! With gratitude, Announcements 🚩 Lice Prevention and Remedy at Carson We understand that head lice is a concern in our school community, and we want to assure you that we take this matter seriously. Please review the following information outlining the steps our school takes to prevent and address lice issues in a safe, caring, and discreet manner Prevention & Education We educate students about lice prevention, including the importance of minimizing close contact and not sharing personal items such as hats, brushes, scarves, hair accessories, and other personal items that come into contact with hair.Encourage students to store their hats, scarves, and other personal items separately, rather than piling them together in a common areaAge-appropriate lessons are provided to help students understand lice prevention without causing fear or stigma. Noticing of Lice Symptoms Teachers and paras are all aware of the symptoms of lice. When they see a student scratching or other indicators of potential nits or lice, students are sent to the office for a lice check in an immediate and discreet manner to promptly identify any potential lice cases. The nurse, health tech para and office team maintain confidentiality and work privately with the student to minimize any embarrassment or peer attention.Parents or guardians of the student are contacted confidentially to share the information and provide guidance on necessary next steps. Guidance and Support for Families Families receive information about effective treatment options, including over-the-counter and prescription treatments.Home kits are provided to families who need/want this resource. Kits for additional family members are also provided. Detailed instructions on cleaning personal items (such as clothing, bedding, and hats) are provided to help stop the spread of lice at home.We work together with families to ensure that treatments are completed properly and that follow-up measures are taken. Reintegration into the Classroom When a particular student has been identified as having lice/nits a thorough cleaning of that grade’s classroom is conducted over night. Students who have been treated for lice may return to school after they have been effectively treated and are free of live lice.A follow-up check may be conducted to ensure the student is lice-free.Our goal is to support our students while reducing any disruption to their learning experience. We appreciate your support and cooperation in keeping our school community lice-free. Should you have any questions or need further assistance, please feel free to contact the school nurse at AnnMarie_Conte@dpsk12.net. A Message from Nurse Conte Colorado is currently facing a statewide lice outbreak, impacting many families and schools. To effectively tackle this issue, it’s crucial to check for lice regularly, communicate with Carson, and raise awareness about prevention and treatment. Together, we can help keep our communities lice-free! Please check out this slideshow Lice 101. Here is general information about lice. Additionally, as you may have heard, there is a measles outbreak in the U.S. The first case in Colorado was reported 3/31/2025. If your child is not immunized, he/she/they are at risk for contracting measles if exposed to anyone infected with the virus. If your child is not vaccinated, please contact your healthcare provider. If you choose not to vaccinate your child with any of the Colorado mandated immunizations, an exemption letter be presented to the school. Attached is the link to access the video you will need to watch prior to printing out the exemption certificate.
