Carson Elementary School After School Enrichment Activities Spring, 2009 ![]() This is an outline of the spring 2009 before and after school enrichment opportunities at Carson Elementary. The school hosts classes in the arts, and physical fitness. In addition to classes, the school supports active clubs and competitive groups, such Choir and Destination ImagiNation. Please read through this information and make your selections by filling out the registration form and returning it with your payment for each of your child’s classes to the Carson office. Classes are filled on a first-come, first-served basis. If there is insufficient enrollment for a class, it may be canceled. Spring Enrichment Period: Begins week of April 13, 2008 Deadline for Spring Registration: Thursday, April 2, 2009Class confirmations sent home by: Thursday, April 9, 2009 ** Please note, there
will be no enrichment classes on days when DPS students are out of school: April 17; May 1. Carson Choir Available to Grades 3-5 8:15 a.m. – 8:50 a.m.Thursdays on the stage Year-Long
Session: Calling all students who love to sing! If you’re in grades 3, 4, or 5*, you can be part of the Carson Cougar Chorus! Singers will meet each Thursday morning from 8:15 to 8:50 on the stage. Please contact Ms. Hanning if interested.![]() Chess Club Fridays in the cafeteriaTwo Sessions: Fall Session: September 26, 2008 to December 12, 2008 (No classes on October 31, November 28)Winter/Spring Session: January 23 – May 8 (No classes on March 27, April 17, May 1) Fee: Free Carson Chess Club is an excellent way for new and experienced players to learn and enjoy the game of chess. This parent-run club provides instruction and guidance and matches students with other players each week. New parents are always welcome! Students’ prompt arrival at 8 am will allow coordinators to set students up with a chess match with another player of an appropriate level. The Chess Club will be introducing many fun and exciting activities this year, and will conclude with the annual end-of-year tournament!![]() Fitness and Sport Fun Available to Grades K-5 Mondays 3:45 to 5:00 PM Fee: $36 six week session Please make checks to: Michael Van Dyke Maximum Class Size: 12 Students Students will work on components of fitness first then choose as a class from various sports possibilities including tennis, basketball, hockey, track, football etc. Each Student will earn a Presidential Fitness certificate and magnet. For more information please contact Mr. Van Dyke Soccer Available to Grades K-5 Thursdays 3:45 to 5:00 PM Fee: $36 six week session Please make checks to: Stephan Drewes Maximum Class Size: 12 Students Students will learn the basics of soccer including the rules and basic ball handling. Available to Grades 1-5 Wednesdays 3:45 to 5:00 PM Fee: $30 six week session Please make checks to: Cathy Philpott Maximum Class Size: 12 Students Ms. Philpott will lead this class just for boys. Similar to the Girls on the Run program, Boy Can Run, Too! is a nutritional running program for boys in grades 1 to 5. The program will involved teaching boys about the food pyramid and the importance of good nutrition. Proper stretching techniques, team-building skills along with running games will all be aprt of this positive program for boys. ![]() Art FunAvailable to Grades 1-5Thursdays 3:45 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.Fee: $60 per student for 6 week session Please make checks to: Mary Beth Kreizel Minimum Class Size: 6 studentsMaximum Class Size: 20 students Carson’s Art teacher, Ms. Kreizel, will teach students to create new sculptural art including puppets, books, masks, architecture, and carving plaster. The last week students will use to complete any pieces that still need a little more work and create a gallery walk of the students’ work for parents to see before taking it home. Ms. Kreizel will use the book of poetry, “Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant” by Jack Prelutsky as inspirations for all of the art projects.

Learn how to use science to create works of art, construct awesome structures and even defy gravity. Journey into the exciting world of meteorology and learn what makes tornadoes swirl and thunder roll. Experiment with the world’s largest magnet and take a trip down the electron freeway!
