Kiss and Go Policy

The DPS Safety & Security Department, DPS Transportation and a representative from the city of Denver reviewed the pick up and drop off procedures at our school. In collaboration with the principal, they developed the safest possible arrival and dismissal procedures for Carson Elementary school.

There is a new Kiss & Go lane specifically for ECE and Kindergarteners that will manned by school staff who will assist you in signing in/out your child and making sure they are safely in/out of your vehicle.

The Kiss & Go lane along E. Ellsworth will have new staffing to help improve both the flow of traffic and student safety.

The Bus Lane along Grape in front of the building remains a NO PARKING zone.

Below is a map detailing the area around the campus, as well as, our new procedures regarding our new and improved Kiss & Go Lanes. These measures will ensure students are safer in the streets around school.

At Carson safety is our number one priority. And, to that end, it is absolutely imperative that anyone walking from the parking lot to Carson use the crosswalks at the corners of the blocks instead of crossing in the middle of the block (i.e. straight across from the parking lot entrances).

Parents are still welcome and encouraged to pick their children up on the playground and to stay on the playground to visit/play. We believe that this is an important part of what makes the Carson community so special. Nonetheless, we recognize that it is not always possible for families to stay on the playground after school and that there is a need in our community for parents to be able to pick up or drop off their children without parking and walking across the street to the playground.

Below you’ll find a map outline the area around our campus and detailed instructions for dropping off and picking up your children.

FAQ

What if I have a 2nd grader AND an ECE student? Which Kiss n Go line will I go in?
Older siblings of ECE/Kinder students will arrive and be dismissed in the ECE/Kinder Kiss n Go lane. 1st -5th grade siblings will be dismissed by their classroom teachers and will walk to the ECE/Kinder playground to wait in line with their ECE/Kinder sibling for parent pick-up.

I will take my child home in a vehicle, but I like to stay on the playground afterschool so my child can play. Is this okay?
No problem! Please make sure that you notify your child’s classroom teacher so that your child is dismissed from the correct location. Parents may park in the Temple Emmanuel parking lot and along 1st Ave in the new designated parking area.

How will you know which child is mine for loading?
In the beginning each family receive a paper tag for their car. Please write your family name on it and affix it to your front windshield. In September, each family will be given a Carson “Kiss n Go” hangtag for their vehicle with a number on it. The number will also be put on your child’s backpack. As you arrive, a Carson employee will look at your hangtag  number (family name, at first) and refer to their clipboard with the students that are assigned to that number. By the time you reach the “Unload Here” sign, your child(ren) will be waiting and ready to be loaded into the vehicle.

Every family at Carson will receive a “Kiss n Go” hangtag for their vehicle with a number (family name, at first) on it, as we know you may decide to use this frequently or only occasionally throughout the year. As you arrive, a Carson employee will look at your hangtag number and refer to their clipboard with the students that are assigned to that number. By the time you reach the “Unload Here” sign, your child(ren) will be waiting and ready to be loaded into the vehicle.
