Chess Club is over for the year!

Congratulations to all chess club members.

We ended the year with a GREAT chess scrimmage at Lowry Elementary and finished our tournament on May 11th!

We look forward to and invite everyone to register for chess club for next school year!!

PARENTS, we will be looking for volunteers for next year. It’s easy and just one Friday morning each week from 8-8:55.

Volunteer Opportunities for 2012-2013 School Year
PTA needs Parent Volunteers to get as event coordinators for the 2012-2013 school year.  There are many fabulous events that are totally easy to plan and a great way to get involved with Carson.   We are looking for parent volunteers, who want to have some fun and jump in to lead events such as The First Day Coffee, Ice Cream Social, Sock Hop and many more fun and fantastic events.  We promise that organizing these events is easy, fun and does not even require you to be a regular PTA meeting attendee.  We also have many behind-the-scenes jobs that do not involve taking the lead on a specific event.  We make it really easy (and fun) for parents to get involved at Carson.    Just let us know and we will get you signed up with something that fits your interest, your time available and your enthusiasm!   Please contact Jennifer I at i_jennifer@yahoo.com or Wende Abrahm at abrahm5@msn.com if you would like more information or would like to volunteer.

Carson Cares Project

Our Character Education focus for April is our Carson Cares Project.  The theme of the Carson Cares Project this year is…The Power of ONE.  During our Carson Cares Project from April 12-26 we will be collecting $1 from anyone willing to donate money to people who foster animals while they wait for adoption.  Your child’s teacher will be collecting donations.

Our Carson Cares Project kicks off on April 12 with a visit from Kathryn Otoshi, the author of the books, One and Zero.  We are grateful to Dale Katzenberg and Carson PTA for making her visit possible.  Her books focus on the power one person has to make a difference and how everyone counts.  She will sign her books while she is here on April 12th…see the flyer in the Thursday folder if you are interested in ordering a book.

Carson was given an overall grade of “A” from the Colorado School Grades organization (www.coloradoschoolgrades.com).

School accomplishments during the 2010-2011 school year:

Based on the state testing results from the Colorado Student Assessment Program (CSAP), Carson received recognition from the district for the greatest gains in Reading, Writing, Mathematics and Science and the highest status or percentage of student’s scoring proficient and above.  Carson is one of the top 10 elementary schools for academic growth in Denver Public Schools.

On the state school performance framework Carson received a rating of “exceeds expectations” for student academic growth.
